1. Kelimutu National Park

Kelimutu National Park Tourism is quite famous not only in local tourism circles but also internationally. The most interesting thing in this NTT tourist attraction is, of course, the existence of a very beautiful three-colour lake seen when the sun rises. This very unique colour composition is certainly one of the extraordinary natural phenomena that you can only find on Mount Kelimutu.

Even so, actually, the Kelimutu National Park does not only offer that. From the foot of the mountain, you can already enjoy the beauty of the beautiful and wide-spread natural landscape.

In the grove of forests in the tourist area of NTT lives a variety of species of flora and fauna. Around 4.5 hectares of the area in this NTT tourist attraction is used as a conservation of the flora and fauna.

Mount Kelimutu is a volcano located on Flores Island, NTT Province, Indonesia. The exact location of this mountain is in Pemo Village, Kelimutu District, Ende Regency. This mountain has three crater lakes at its peak. This lake is known as the Three Color Lake because it has three different colours, namely red, blue and white. Even so, these colours always change over time.     Kelimutu is a combination of words from "keli" which means mountain and the word "quality" which means to boil. According to local residents' beliefs, the colours of Lake Kelimutu have their respective meanings and have very powerful natural forces.

Lake or Tiwu Kelimutu is divided into three parts which correspond to the colours in the lake. The blue lake or "Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai" is a gathering place for the souls of young people who have died. The red lake or "Tiwu Ata Polo" is a gathering place for the souls of people who have died and as long as they live they always commit crimes. While the white lake or "Tiwu Ata Mbupu" is a gathering place for the souls of parents who have died.     Residents around Lake Kelimutu believe that when the lake changes colour, they must give offerings to the spirits of people who have died.     The area of the three lakes is around 1,051,000 square meters with a water volume of 1,292 million cubic meters. The boundary between lakes is a narrow stone wall that is prone to landslides. This wall is very steep with an angle of 70 degrees. The height of the lake wall ranges from 50 to 150 meters.

2. Wae Rebo ( State above the clouds)

The traditional village of Wae Rebo in the district of Manggarai on the island of Flores, East Nusatenggara, has received the Top Award of Excellence from UNESCO in the 2012 UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Awards, announced in Bangkok on 27 August 2012.

This small and isolated village was recognized for its rebuilding of the traditional Mbaru Niang traditional house based on the spirit of community cooperation towards a sustainable tradition, while at the same time improving its village welfare.

Wae Rebo is a small, very out of the way village. Situated on around 1,100 meters above sea level and approximately 3 - 4 hour travel by foot from Denge Village. Wae Rebo is completely surrounded by panoramic mountains and the dense Todo forest. This tropical forest is rich in vegetation, where you will find orchids, different types of ferns and hear the chirping of many songbirds. There is also no mobile coverage in this village, and the electricity is only available from 6 to 10 pm. The air is relatively cold, especially in the dry season, so don’t forget to bring your jacket if you’re planning to visit the village.

Founder of the village and, therefore, their main ancestor who built the village some 100 years ago, was a man called Empu Maro. Today, the inhabitants are his 18th generation descendants.

Wae Rebo’s main characteristics are their unique houses, which they call Mbaru Niang that are tall and conical in shape and are completely covered in lontar thatch from its rooftop down to the ground. It appears that at one time such kind of houses were quite common to the region. But today, it is only this village that continues to maintain the typical Manggarai traditional house, without which these unique houses would have been completely fazed out.

The house has five levels, each level designated for a specific purpose. The first level , called lutur or tent, are the living quarters of the extended family. The second level, called lobo, or attic, is set aside to store food and goods, the third level called lentar is to store seeds for the next harvest, the fourth level called lempa rae is reserved for food stocks in case of draught, and the fifth and top level, called hekang kode, which is held most sacred, is to place offerings for the ancestors.

One special ceremonial house is the community building where members of the entire clan gather for ceremonies and rituals. They are predominantly Catholic but still adhere to old beliefs. In this house are stored the sacred heirloom of drums and gongs.

With a small population of around 1,200 inhabitants only, the village comprises 7 houses. The staple diet of villagers is cassava and maize, but around the village they plant coffee, vanilla, and cinnamon which they sell in the market, located some 15 km. away from the village. Lately, however, Wae Rebo has grown in popularity as a tourist destination for international ecotourism enthusiasts, and this has added to the economic welfare of the village. The people of Wae Rebo warmly welcome visitors who wish to see their village and experience their simple traditional life.

3. Cunca Wulang Waterfall

As well as searching for treasure, to be able to find Cunca Wulang Waterfall you need to go through a challenging and hidden journey field. The area in this NTT tourist spot is often equated with the Grand Canyon in America there, but complete with this waterfall has very clear and freshwater.

The colour of the water that flows in the tourist area of East Nusa Tenggara appears fresh bluish-green, making the reflection of sunlight that penetrates into it looks very beautiful.

Under the waterfall, there is a pool that can be used for bathing or swimming. Many tourists often turn large limestone over them into jumping points into the water.

The name Cunca Wulang Waterfall has its own meaning. When interpreted in Indonesian, Cunca and Wulang itself means waterfalls and the Moon. So the name means the Moon Falls. Either the water from the moon or the beautiful water is as beautiful as the Full Moon.     Cunca Wulang Waterfall itself is located in the Mbeilling forest area. Cunca Wulang itself is located at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level so that the air around would definitely feel cooler.     At first glance, this waterfall looks like a small version of the Grand Canyon with the river flowing between large rock cliffs and the waterfall is above the rocks and out through the rock crevices. Rocks that flank the river waterfall are safe to climb because they are not sharp on the sides.

Location: Pota Wangka, Boleng, West Manggarai

4. Lingko Field

The beauty of Indonesia is inseparable from the nature that stretches, ranging from beaches, mountains, to the atmosphere in the rice fields such as Lingko Rice Fields located in the Village Cancar, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, stretching with the enchanting layout of rice fields nan.

Different from rice fields in other regions, Lingko Rice Field has an attractive form of paddy fields that forms a spider web, aka odok (a garden with a central circle). This pattern relates to the use of land owned by each local customary citizen.

The Manggarai people have known agriculture since the nomadic life system of hunting, to changing agrarian by means of settling. Since then, the existence of agricultural land has played an important role in the Manggarai community. As a result, the distribution of agricultural land must be based on customs.

Lingko is a system of distribution of rice fields that starts from the middle point called lodok. From that midpoint, a long line is drawn towards the outer plane called cicing. The pattern is small on the inside and large on the outside or like a spider's web.

The further from the midpoint, the wider the land. Unlike rice fields in general, the circle has a pattern like a spider's web. This uniqueness is what makes it a tourist destination. Anyone will be amazed by the amazing view.

In addition, you will be greeted with cool air like rice fields in Cancar Village. Generally, tourists will visit this unique rice field tour after descending from Wae Rebo Tourism Village.

Its location is in Cancar Village, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, or about 15 kilometres from Ruteng City. To get to Cancar Village, you can use city transportation from Ruteng, then get off at Cancar Market. From Cancar Market, walk around 2.5 kilometres.

Although not a tourist destination managed by the government or the private sector, Cancar Village applies a registration system by filling in a guest book in a house. From the house, just walk to the top of the hill to see the circle from a height.

The system of dividing paddy fields by the ancestors of Manggarai is done centrally. Where the zero points is in the middle of the customary land that will be divided. The pattern is by drawing a long line from the midpoint which in Manggarai language is called lodok to the outer plane or icing.

The philosophy follows the form of a cobweb, where lodok, a small part is in the inside (middle) and the exit is increasingly widened. The authority to divide communal land belongs to Tu'a Teno (adat leader).

The initial distribution is done through a traditional Tente ritual or sticking teno wood in the lodok epicenter. When the goat's blood is shed on teno wood, it indicates that the distribution of the land is legally valid.

Lodok forms rice fields, he explained, the only one in the world, and a unique Manggarai culture that needs to be maintained. Tu'a Teno or the traditional leader and Tu'a Golo or the village elder will generally get a larger part of the paddy field.

That said, the distribution of customary land follows the formula Moso (fingers) adjusted to the number of recipients of inherited land and their descendants. In accordance with the Moso formula, he said, the distribution of land was prioritized for village leaders and their families, which was then followed by ordinary residents of tribal residents, only afterwards from non-tribal residents.

Traditionally, outside residents can own paddy fields by asking it to Tu'a Golo or village elders. The trick is to bring a rooster and arak or Kapu Manuk Lele Tuak and be legalized through a village council session chaired by Tu'a Golo which is endorsed by Tu'a Teno.

5. Koka Beach

This tourist destination in East Nusa Tenggara is also quite hidden because it is located 35 kilometres from downtown Maumere, precisely in Wolowiro, Sikka. Because it is still hidden, Koka Beach is also still rarely visitors.

6. Riung Island

Marine park 17 Riung Island presents a different side of Flores Island. When set foot in the marine park area which has more than seventeen pieces of this island, visitors seemed invited to feel firsthand the silence and beauty of the 17 Marine Park of Riung Island.

Despite the name 17 Pulau Riung Marine Park, this marine park actually consists of 24 islands. This number 17 is used as a reminder of Indonesia's Independence Day, which falls on August 17, 1945.

Most of the islands in Pulau Laut 17 Riung Island are hills with savanna fields. In addition to its underwater beauty, the land is rich in exotic fauna such as Timor deer, Mbou monitor lizards, various poultry species such as black storks, yellow-breasted parakeets, parrots, and others.

The islands in this area can be explored using ships that can be rented from local residents. 17 Marine Park Area Riung Island presents the underwater beauty which is a pity to miss when visiting Ngada Regency.

Visitors can do snorkelling activities at several points such as around Pulau Tiga and Pulau Pulau. The condition of the waters of this region is arguably very clear and is dominated by a variety of coral reefs such as the type of soft coral, table coral and sea fans.

Location of Riung Island 17 Marine Park
17 Pulau Riung Marine Park. Located in Riung District, Ngada Regency, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. About 75 km from Bajawa City, the capital of Ngada Regency.

7. The peak of Mount Inerie

If in Garut, West Java there is the famous Mount Sadahurip because of its shape that resembles a pyramid, it turns out on the island of Flores can also be found other mountains that have a shape similar to the ancient Egyptian building. The mountain is named Mount Inerie, located in Ngada Regency, or about fifteen kilometres to the south of Bajawa which is the city centre of Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The shape of Mount Inerie truly resembles a pyramid with a pointed tip. There are several places around Mount Inerie that serve as a spot to enjoy the beauty of this active volcano. Aimere and Manulalu Lodging, are said to be the best place to enjoy the panoramic view of Mount Inerie because that is where the shape of the mountain that last erupted in 1970 will look as clear as a sharp pyramid.

Not satisfied with just enjoying the panorama from a distance, try to directly climb the mountain which has a height of 2,245 meters above sea level. Although quite high, to reach the top of Mount Inerie only takes about three to five hours. This is due to the fact that Watumeze Village, which was used as a starting point for climbing, was already on a relatively high plateau. Usually, the climbers start climbing from dawn to get to the top when the sun begins to rise. This mountain is busy climbing during the dry season or around June to August.

Climbing Mount Inerie is not an easy matter, the track from the Ngada community's pride mountain is dominated by gravel and rock to the summit. This makes the road traversed slippery and difficult to tread. Not infrequently the climbers must crawl in order to continue climbing. At least the vegetation of trees that grow on this mountain will increase the challenge if the climb is done in the afternoon because the scorching sun will not hesitate to increase the burden of climbing.

Arriving at the first ridge, a fairly deep crater from Mount Inerie can be seen. But the journey still must continue to its highest point with rocky terrain and increasingly sharp slope. Approximately 30 minutes of climbing from the last ridge, climbers will arrive at the highest peak of Mount Inerie. The peak is marked by three poles shaped like a cross embedded in the ground. From this peak, you can clearly see the Bena Traditional Village which is located right at the foot of this mountain and is also one of the attractions of the Ngada Regency.

The activity of climbing Mount Inerie is well known to local and foreign tourists. The visitors are facilitated by the tourist information centre in Bajawa City if they need more information related to this mountain, or need the services of a guide to climb Mount Inerie.

8. Bukit Wairinding

The land of Sumba is indeed blessed with a natural charm that is different from other beauties in Indonesia. The nature of the topography is dominated by a series of mountains and limestone hills, making this unique and exotic nature in East Sumba different from other districts in NTT. The hill, which began to be visited by tourists since it became one of the filming locations directed by Mira Lesmana in the film Pendekar Tongkat Emas, does have a very beautiful hilly landscape. Visiting the land of East Sumba you will feel found a piece of paradise that lies between the hills. Wairinding that makes goosebumps! Located in Pambota Jara Village, Pandawai District or around 30 minutes drive from the center of East Sumba, this hill looks amazing with its extensive grassland vegetation.

Wairinding Hill Landscape is so beautiful and very charming, making the eyes of the visitors like not wanting to blink. The vast expanse of savanna will turn yellow in the dry season and vice versa green in the rainy season. Visiting Bukit Wairinding in both seasons will surely give a different impression. If visitors come in the dry season, which is between July and October, the natural atmosphere there will feel like being in Africa, complete with exotic savannah. It is different if visitors come in the rainy season, the atmosphere like in the hills of New Zealand you will feel on arrival on this hill. Wairinding Hill is the right place for visitors who want to enjoy the stillness, silence and beauty that is still very natural.

In addition to the exotic hilly landscape, the beauty of this hill feels complete with the presence of a group of local children in Wairinding who almost every day can be seen playing around the hilly area. They will always accompany each visitor who comes to this hill with enthusiasm. Of course they do it sincerely without expecting the slightest reward from the visitors. The smile on their faces that is very distinctive will leave a deep impression on the minds of the visitors, and will certainly be difficult to forget.

Access to Tourism Locations. Located about 25 km from downtown Waingapu, for visitors who want to visit this beautiful hill can use travel services, public buses or if you want to be more flexible can rent motor vehicles in Waingapu. For car rental rates ranging from 500,000 to 600,000, it is already packaged with the driver, while for motorbike rental the rental price is around 100,000 rupiah per day.

The condition of the road to the Wairinding location is very good, it has smooth asphalt even though the road is winding. You will pass the trans Sumba Waingapu-Waikabubak road known as "Letter S" because of its meandering topography. Approximately 30-45 minutes driving time, you will get to the location. The benchmark location is a small shop located on the right side of the road. Arriving there, visitors can park their vehicles in the parking lot that is available around the stall which is also the place to live for the local community. From there, visitors still have to walk up the hill behind the stall approximately 500 m.

Entrance Ticket Price (HTM). There is no official entrance fee collection at Wairinding, but every guest who arrives is advised to fill in the guest book and give only the sincere money for the welfare of the local community.

Nearby Facilities. There are no supporting facilities whatsoever around the location. There is only a small warung on the outskirts, but even that is incomplete. It is recommended for visitors who want to visit here to bring food, especially drinks beforehand, because the weather in East Sumba is very hot during the day.

The following facts must be known before visiting Komodo Island.

The fact of Komodo Dragon
The Komodo National Park was declared a World Heritage Site and Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1986. The longest recorded Komodo dragon is 3.13 meters and weighs 166 kg. It has 60 sharp jagged teeth about 2.5 cm long, which are often replaced.
Komodo dragon's saliva is often mixed with a little blood because its teeth are almost completely covered by gingival tissue and this tissue is torn during eating. This condition creates an ideal growth environment for deadly bacteria that live in their mouths.

The male Komodo dragon is bigger than the female Komodo dragon, with skin colour from dark grey to brick red, while the female Komodo dragon is more olive green, and has a small yellow stripe on its throat. Young Komodo dragons are more colourful, with yellow, green and white on a black background.

The most deadly bacteria in Komodo dragon's saliva seems to be the bacterium Pasteurella multocida.

The mating season occurs in May and August. Contain eggs for a month, and eggs will hatch in 7-8 months. A female Komodo dragon can lay eggs up to 13 points.

How to Reach Komodo Island

If you are from Jakarta, you must transit in Bali first. From Bali, the journey continues towards Labuan Bajo, a small town in northwest Flores which is the gateway to Komodo Island. There are several airlines that serve the Denpasar-Labuan Bajo route, with a travel time of about half an hour.

Do & Dons

When talking about the weather, the temperature in this place is very hot and humid, so make sure you, the travelvers, bring a few bottles of drinking water so as not to dehydrate alias thirst. Do not go alone. Better to go with a tour guide or park attendant.
Don't disturb or feed the dragons. Even though their movements are slow and lazy, these animals can suddenly become aggressive and move quickly.
When trekking, bring a two-pronged stick. Komodo dragons are usually afraid of being bluffed with a stick.

Wear shoes. Komodo, Rinca, and Pidar Island have 12 species of snakes and 3 of them are poisonous, for example green snakes that live in trees, Cobras, and Russell's Viper that live in the savanna meadow hole.

Women who are menstruating should report to a guide or island attendant for more attention. Komodo has a sharp sense of smell and can become aggressive if it smells blood.
Bring mosquito repellent or use mosquito repellent lotion.

Most places on the islands of Komodo and Rinca are savanna grasslands that are flammable during the dry season, so smoking and fires are prohibited.

The Legend of Komodo History
As we know, Komodo Island has amazing beauty and is also included in 7 world wonders (Seven Wonders). But have you ever questioned the history or legend of this Komodo Island? Let's more clearly refer to the following review of the historical legend of the Komodo dragon.

Investigate Komodo History
As an Indonesian you should be proud because there are many places or objects that have been recognized as world wonders.

One of them is the only ancient animal in the world that still exists and lives on the island called Komodo Island and Rinca Island UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Folklore
Komodo or The Dragon which is a species of lizard was formerly called "Orah" by the local community.
The historical legend of Komodo is told in ancient times, there is a princess named Putri Naga. He lived on an island and later married a Moja from the other island.

Long story short the princess got pregnant and then gave birth to twins who both have male genitalia. It's just that one of them has a different shape that is similar to a lizard and makes this couple ashamed.

Both gave the name Orah to a son who was similar to a lizard and gave the name Gerong to a normal baby. Orah was exiled to the forest while Gerong was raised by Putri Naga and Moja himself. As time passed, Gerong had grown up with a manly body. Until when the hunting deer Gerong he met a giant lizard who then Gerong chase and want to unsheathe the spear.

However, suddenly the Dragon Princess came and forbade to kill the giant lizard that is now known as the Komodo dragon. Putri Naga explained to Gerong that the lizard was her twin sister named Orah.

Since then the surrounding community has always treated the Komodo dragon as a brother. That is a little story of the origin of the Komodo dragon called Orah and become animals that are treated well until now.

Get closer to the deadly giant dragon lizard
Varatus Komodoensis or Lizards Komodo or Orah is one of the largest reptile species in the world. Komodo lives on the islands of Komodo, Flores, Gili Matang, Gili Dasami and Rinca in Nusa Tenggara Indonesia.

Discovery & Science
In 1910, Lieutenant Jacques Karel Henri van Steyn van Hensbroek was placed on Flores Island in eastern Indonesia by the Dutch colonial government, when he received news of a very large "land crocodile" that lived on the island of Komodo by local people.

Intrigued, he left for the island to investigate on his own. He returned with a photo and skin of the animal, which he sent to Pieter Ouwens, who was then the director of the Java Zoological Museum and Botanical Gardens in Buitenzorg (now the Bogor Botanical Gardens).

The animal is not a crocodile in any form, but a large giant lizard. Ouwens realized that this animal was new in world science and immediately published the first formal description of the animal, which we now know as the Komodo dragon, Varanus komodoensis.

Can be a deadly poison
Komodo including reptile species that have can be deadly. The deadly ability is obtained because of the strong bite and poisonous poison that arises from thousands of glands in the gums.

Some people call it the thousands of deadly bacteria in their mouths. But there is a refutation from several scientists of poison researchers from the University of Melbourne in Australia that "all bacteria are scientific fables," Bryan Fry said.

This is written in Bryan Fry's quote in National Geographic "Komodo Dragons Kill With Venom"

That actually killed the Komodo dragon prey only from the strength of the bite and its shreds, by waiting for the prey that escaped immediately weakened and died. This ferocious carnivore will track down its injured prey and eat in its spare time as it collapses helpless and dies.     Animals called Orah by the surrounding community live by hunting animals around the island of Komodo dragon and animal like goat, deer and wild boar.     Until now these animals live side by side and even their habitat is used as the Komodo Island National Park. Komodo Legend & History FAQ
Why is Komodo recognized as a wonder of the world?     Because Komodo is the only ancient animal that is still alive today, of course, on the island of Komodo and Rinca Island. What do local people call Komodo animals, and what's the story?     Komodo was born from an ancient historical legend of a princess named Putri Naga. Living on an island, the princess married a man named Moja from the other island. After that, the princess became pregnant and gave birth to twin boys. But one of them has a somewhat different shape, which is similar to a lizard and makes both partners embarrassed.     The child was given the name Orah, while a normal baby was given the name Gerong. Orah was deliberately exiled in the forest, then Gerong raised to adulthood and grew into a manly man. Until the time Gerong hunts deer, but accidentally meets a lizard and he continues to chase and unleash the spear.     But finally, the Naga princess came and forbade Gerong to kill the mercury lizard because actually, the lizard was her twin sister. After that, the surrounding community also treats dragons as brothers. That is the story of a short legend from the origin of Komodo dragons. Who researched and found Komodo dragons?     In 1910, Lieutenant Jacques Karel Henri van Steyn van Hensbroek was placed on the island of Flores by the Dutch colonial authorities. After he received the news of the discovery of a unique animal, he returned with a photo and Komodo animal skin. Then, Pieter Ouwens realized that this was a new discovery in world science. Does Komodo dragon have deadly poisons?     Komodo dragons are one of the reptiles that are usually deadly, because strong bites and the presence of toxins can emerge from thousands of gum glands.     But there are studies that explain that the Komodo dragon only hurts its prey through shreds and bites. What are the natural attractions on the island of Komodo?     There are various kinds of beautiful natural scenery on Komodo Island, such as Padar Island Komodo, Pink Beach Komodo Island, and so on.
